Goals

Eating disorders are serious conditions associated with persistent food related behaviors that negatively impact one's health: physically, mentally, and emotionally. As medical nutrition therapists, our eating disorder RD's are educated and trained in food as medicine while incorporating therapeutic approaches to help individuals release the rigid rules, rituals, and behaviors they have cultivated related to food and body.

Our dietitians help to guide individuals in finding and strengthening the voice that soothes them to help combat dysfunctional eating thoughts, urges, and behaviors. This may be done through challenges and practices that allow them to dig deeper to understand the root of this behavior and/or triggers.

The aim is to help patients develop their understanding of their eating disorder and take their power back to embrace food and body freedom. This can be done by identifying one’s attitudes towards body weight and body shape, disordered weight control behaviors amongst food control behaviors, external influences such as peers, family, and friends, and ensure the conversation surrounding nutrition education is mindful, engaging, and supportive.

Testimonial

“I have worked with Emma for quite a few months and have found her extremely helpful in my recovery. She has a good balance of being kind and encouraging while also making sure to hold me accountable. She is great at providing tasks that challenge me in recovery but are still achievable. I think something that makes Emma unique is that she wants to help with not only the physical aspect of recovery but also the mental aspect. She is someone I feel very comfortable talking to about my struggles and feel that she creates a very safe and non judgemental environment. She also does a great job of working with my therapist to make sure that what we are working on in our meetings also carries over to my other providers, in order to make my recovery very cohesive. I am very grateful that I get to work with Emma and have her supporting me during my recovery.”
